Few women are willing to risk being thrown into the same category as the Susan Smiths and Andrea Yates of the world. As a society we have avoided the issue and kept it under wraps which is not surprising given the direction the media has traveled. The media has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in society's avoidance of issues pertaining to postpartum depression, leaving us with dark and disturbing images of a disheveled, psychotic, homicidal woman who is capable of unthinkable acts.
